President Nelson Receives Education Leadership Award

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA. - Lincoln University President Ivory V. Nelson has received the The Education Leadership Award presented by the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund (TMSF) on Monday, October 23 in New York, home of the national organization created to provide financial assistance to students attending public historically black colleges and universities.

The Education Leadership Award is the highest honor given to a sitting president of a public historically black college or university.  As chief operating officer of the institution, the recipient has demonstrated outstanding business, academic and visionary leadership through effective management.

“I am truly honored by being chosen for this prestigious award,” President Nelson said.  “It is very humbling and I have the faculty, staff, students and alumni to thank for their commitment to ensuring that the Lincoln legacy will be enhanced and preserved.”

President Nelson was appointed at Lincoln University in 1999, becoming the 12th individual to lead the nation’s first degree-granting historically black university.  During his tenure, Lincoln University has experienced significant increase in fund raising, record enrollment, new academic programs and major capital improvements.

TMSF, named after the Lincoln University graduate who became the first African American associate justice of the U. S. Supreme Court, was founded in 1987.  Since its inception, TMSF has awarded more than $50 million in scholarships and programmatic support to more than 5,000 students.
