Archon Harold A. Black honored as Distinguished Speaker by International Finance Association
During the Midwest Finance Association Conference in San Antonio, Texas, Archon Harold A. Black was honored as the Distinguished Luncheon Speaker. The Midwest Finance Association (MFA) was founded in 1951 as the first regional finance association with the purpose of fostering high-quality theoretical and empirical research with important practical relevance in all areas of finance and financial economics. Since it’s founding, MFA has grown from a regional association to an international association with members from almost every corner of the globe. An important goal for MFA is to be the major conference of choice for researchers, regulators, faculty, practitioners and graduate students throughout the world. The Midwest Finance Association is dedicated to developing and disseminating information on the finance discipline to members and other interested individuals through annual professional meetings and sponsorship of the highly regarded "The Quarterly Review of Economics and Finance".
Dr. Harold A. Black was the Distinguished Luncheon Speaker on February 28, 2008 at the annual MFA conference in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Black is the James F. Smith, Jr. Professor of Financial Institutions at the University of Tennessee. He has previously held positions at University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, University of Florida and American University. He was also Deputy Director of Economic Research at the OCC and Board Member of the FDIC, and appointed by President Jimmy Carter to serve on the National Credit Union Administration Board. He is Past President of EFA and previous Editor of the Financial Review, and the International Review of Financial Analysis. He has conducted Executive seminars at University of North Carolina, US Treasury, LSU Banking School, University of Santiago, University of Malaysia and consulted to major commercial banks, savings banks and credit unions. His work is published in Journal of Finance, American Economic Review, and Journal of Money Credit and Banking, Journal of Monetary Economics and other finance journals. His work focuses on financial intermediation, rigidities in the mortgage markets and other imperfections in the provision of credit. Archon Black is a prominent member of the Beta Theta Boulé in Knoxville, Tennessee and enjoys riding motorcycles, wild game hunting and bass fishing in his leisure time.
